A guide for parents
One rule at the door
One rule is easier to keep than ten. This one is about a single place: the front door.
Why one simple rule
A rule about a place is easier than a rule about a habit. Nobody has to count minutes or watch anyone. When you walk in, the phone goes in the dock. That is the whole rule.
Setting it up
- Put the dock by the front door, where everyone walks past.
- When you walk in, the phone goes in the dock.
- It comes out when you leave, or whenever you choose.
Our family agreement
- When the phones rest:
- Who goes first:
- What we do instead:
What the app shows
The app shows how long the phone rested in the dock. If you work with a practitioner, you can bring that number to your next session and talk about it together.
Tips
- Parents go first.
- Start with one hour in the evening.
- No punishment. It is a default, not a rule enforced by the device: the phone can always be picked up.
